Young Einstein

(NOTE: be sure to read the Post Script...)

We're not talkin' tender young turkeys here. This is the genuine article - a child prodigy. Right here on the farm.

There are many good things about raising a family on a farm, for instance the opportunity to learn how to work effectively ("work smart, not hard" is our motto), how to improvise, how to make things, how to be responsible. And turning that imagination loose to create.

Take a good look at this innovative tool:
Any guesses? A hint: it's sitting on my potting table...

OK, here it is in action. The spinach tub was the test site for the DOUBLE SEED ROW MAKER. It works perfectly, making furrows just the right depth, and just the right width apart. It took my breath away, such an incredible little tool - invented, created and constructed by the youngest grandpunk. Yep. That would be the Maxster.
He's five. Did I mention, child prodigy?! Are you not WAY IMPRESSED??!! Max never fails to astonish, entertain and amuse me. Not to mention the one-of-a-kind "Max hugs". He's my very favorite Max.

I put the planter in my garden bucket, along with my other favorite hand tools, all ready to go next spring.

And yes - he has been called a "little turkey" a time or two...one Einstein to another.
POST SCRIPT (after posting this little story): Last night at Family Home Evening Max was sitting on my lap, and I asked his dad if he had seen Max's invention. Before Brent could answer, Max put his arms around my neck and said, "Grampa is smiling down on me for making dat!"
He and Grampa Dennis had spent a fair amount of time discussing tools and learning how to use them, and Max was only three then. He's been swinging a hammer ever since. He helped nail down the upstairs floor of the cabin with Grampa.
That's my boy. Both my boys...
