House Guest

Soft blanket on the bed. Check. Basket of treats on the bedstand. Check. Talk with Jetta regarding appropriate behavior while entertaining a guest. Check. I think we're ready.

And heeeeerrrrrreeeees NIGEL!

Isn't he adorable? ?!
Well let me tell you about Nigel. He is an 8 year old American Cocker Spaniel, who belongs to my good friend down the road. There is only one major obstacle in Nigel's life of leisure and entertainment - my friend's husband has a serious dislike of him. To the point that whenever my friend has to be gone overnight or longer, Nigel comes to stay with me. Otherwise he might not get fed, pottied, cuddled, played with, absolutely can't sleep on the bed, or other wise be spoiled rotten as he is accustomed to being. This is a serious matter in Nigel's world.
When Nigel comes to spend some time at the cabin, he arrives with his retractable leash, training collar (he has NO leash manners - as I said, spoiled), doggy biscuits, special food, and his BABY.
Now this is going to amaze anyone reading who has ever raised a puppy: Nigel has had his blue rabbit "baby "(in the photo above) since he was a few months old - and it still looks like new. Nigel packs him around, plays with him, hides him, retrieves him on command no matter which floor of the house bunny was last seen. Other than a few slobber spots, Blue Bunny hasn't a tooth mark on him. No holes, no loose threads, ears and tail intact. Nigel also has a soft stuffed dolphin - also intact (a few smudges don't count)

Cockers are renowned for their soft-mouthed bird retrieving skills. Nigel may be spoiled, he may be a brat, he may be a confirmed chicken-chaser, he may not walk on a leash with any modicum of manners - but by gum that little guy has a SOFT MOUTH!

He looks like a stuffed toy himself, in this picture. And he's sure soft and silky like a stuffed toy. To bad his manners don't match!!
