St. Paddy's dinner

Celebrating various holidays MUST include appropriate vittles! I take advantage of these occasions to play with new recipes - a captive, hungry dinner group are perfect guinea pigs...
For St. Patrick's Day I decided to indulge in an Irish soda bread taste test. Four recipes later, we had a nice variety to choose from. We eschewed the traditional corned beef and cabbage in favor of a nice Irish pot roast, with onions, carrots, turnips, and cabbage. An all-green salad seemed appropriate, too.
The black iron pot was filled with creamy green speckled Colcannon - fancified mashed potatoes with leeks and kale, and LOTS of butter! Online, I found entertaining information on this Irish traditional food - we enjoyed the information and the 'taties!

Our guests were Terry and Diane; Terry being a trencherman of renown, provided satisfactory feedback - seconds on everything.

Sadly, the dessert of Blackberry Cobbler was ignored by the camera person - I was too busy dishing it up with Tillamook Vanilla icecream to take pictures!
A great evening of good country-style food and family stories, in the Irish tradition.
