Spring still-life studies

Spring is a season of surprises. But some things never change.

For instance: you can count on hyacinths and pussywillows.

This little vignette of mom's front porch says "Spring" simply by objects. Mud boots (it IS Oregon, after all...) and boot jack, a walking stick for safe hiking on those first tempting spring days when the sun peeks through watery clouds. Pussywillows gathered from limb trimmings up the road. The resident cat sculpture (good for a giggle!), a pot waiting for an occupant.

And no, they weren't arranged, they just happened. One of those fun little spring surprises.

And last but far from least, in his mind anyway, is the neighbor's cat who has adopted us on rainy days and frosty nights. Bert here displays perfect "still life" on the couch in front of the fireplace. Cats specialize in still life formats, doncha know...

Keep your eyes open, spring really IS coming...at least in some places.
