I can't wait....

This is a sad picture. Because the sun is out, the sky is blue (mostly), it is spring.

However.

Spring in Wisconsin does not mean the ground is thawed. Or even getting warm. Four feet of frost permeates the soil. Takes awhile to get a couple of inches of loose soil on top. Which means the garden area sits silent. Lonely. COLD.

Aha! Improvise. This nice old tub (well drained via the gunshot holes...wonder what THAT story was about...), full of loose dirt and convenient to my back door, is now planted with spinach. Popeye would be proud.

And while I wait for the spinach, the wild things are calling out for notice. My favorite spring green? NETTLES!!

Tea. Soup. Tonic.

When the nettles appear, I know that spring is truly here.

Even if the daffodils aren't quite blooming yet.
