Springtime Gourmet

Anyone who gardens knows the agony of waiting for those first sprouts to appear, then coaxing them along through frost, storms, unseasonable heat, hail, and all the other springtime hazards. FINALLY! The fat little radish roots have shown their shoulders and we pounce on them like Jetta on a baby bunny - er, sorry for the visual there.
Anyway, here's Chef J's first fruits (or veggies, if you're a purist) of his planting. There are sweet but zippy white and red French Breakfast, roly-poly Red Globe, and the crispy mild White Icicle radishes.

Actually, the first spring treats were volunteers, asparagus which has survived long years in their lonesome little niche by an equally deserted rhubarb plant, remnants of a long-ago garden. Steamed fresh asparagus - minutes from being plucked to the pot - umm umm.
And guess what we're waiting for next?
Look at the load of buds on these babies - we're rounding up all our favorite strawberry recipes in anticipation of a scruptious crop! Collin's famous Strawberry Pie is top of the list.

We even have the bird netting supports up, ready for business. These tasty sweeties are NOT going to be shared with the local fauna - furred OR feathered.
